CalDAV login credential rejection connecting to share.mayfirst.org server

Hi fellow mayfirsters,

I am currently in the process of degoogling and found a weird behavior while trying to login to the share.mayfirst.org server using the https://tasks.org/ app for android (tasks vs. 15.7.4; Android vs. 15; Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0.207.0)

It gives the option to connect through CalDAV so I took that route. I input my login and password but was constantly rejecting the credentials. Weird because I had already connected other apps. So it occurred to me to go check the nextcloud “desktop” app credentials and found out that although my user login is all in small caps, somehow in nextcloud it is registered with the first letter capitalized.

Went back to the task app and voilá, it worked.

I’m posting this in case any person is having also strange login credential rejections in third party apps while connecting to share.mayfirst.org

Thanks martin for the report. It is very strange! Our authentication system forces all usernames to lowercase so I’m not sure how you username in Nextcloud could be in a title case? Could you show a screen shot or describe where in the Nextcloud UI you are seeing it with the first letter capitalized? Also, can you let me know which username it is (feel free to email support if you’d rather keep this private).
