Hi Folks - Sorry, this site was down for about 24 hours.
Discourse has a wonderfully easy web click upgrade process that usually works pretty well… until it doesn’t. In this case, the web upgrade screen was a white screen of death and when I tried to upgrade via the command line, I noticed it tried to upgrade postgres from version 13 to 15 and it seemed to run out of disk space in the middle, which caused everything to break.
I’m not sure I’m crazy about this model of running complicated array of services glued together with fragile upgrade scripts. It’s really impressive when it works but a nightmare to fix. In this case, most of the forum posts suggested rebuilding everything from scratch and importing the backup.
Since our previous server was on our old infrastructure, I took this opportunity to rebuild and re-import from our backup. Miraculously it all worked!
