Support for multi-factor authentication?

Does Mayfirst have any plans to support multi-factor authentication (MFA) for account login? Or is this supported and I’m missing it?

If not supported, I’m curious what the barriers are to implementing MFA and whether it’s something that the Mayfirst team is already working on or prioritizing.

Thanks for your support and for charting forth a more ethical tech ecosystem. <3

Hi @nilobobo - Nextcloud is the only service we have that has multi-factor authentication (you can set that up via the Nextcloud settings when you login via https://share.mayfirst.org/).

We have a lot of priorities! Right now our first priority is to complete the move of all of our services to our new infrastructure (see What is the "new infrastructure" and why are we moving to it? | Help).

High on my personal list of follow up priorities is a single sign on system (that would support MFA). The bad news is that figuring out a single sign on system that works for all our different services means a lot more research, planning, and testing before we can deploy, so I think we are looking at 2026. The good news is that it should provide a simple way to add MFA to all things May First, rather than having a confusing patch work of different methods for each service.
